Crew Does the Hard Sell, with Help from the Herald

• Dr. Rudy Crew offends more people than he charms. Dr. Crew and School Board Member for District 9, Ms. Evelyn Greer, received Keys to the City of Homestead this past Tuesday, 16 October by Mayor Roscoe Warren. For what you may ask? As a citizen of the city of Homestead, I asked myself the same question. Consider this: 5 schools in the Homestead area received an "F" for their FCAT performance. In addition, graduation rates at Homestead Senior High and South Dade Senior High are dismally low. In addition, the citizens of Homestead have been waiting for a new K-8 school to be built for 4 years now on the east side of town. Lastly, to add salt to the wound an Educational Facilities Benefits District (EFBD) Tax spearheaded by Councilwoman and aspiring Mayor Lynda Bell will be imposed on the citizens of said district, primarily Keys Gate, to pay for the new K-8 that supposedly will open in the fall of 2009. Note one thing: The EFBD citizens will pay the extra tax to go to this school but others outside the district will be able to attend since no preferential treatment can be implemented. School Board member Marta Perez, a critic of Dr. Crew, may have been on to something all along. In my opinion it's time for Dr. Crew to move on to other pastures regardless of how green they turn out to be.
