Over The Weekend - Gay Rights Crawl and Latin Flavored Festival
In Miami, St. Pat's Day started on Friday. But then again people get stupid drunk and party almost every weekend here so that's really no surprise. Almost as if the powers that be wanted Miamians to be dead tired and all sinned out before Good Friday, we had the Calle Ocho Festival on Sunday, a gay rights bar crawl on Friday, and today is St. Patrick's Day. I wonder how people are going to make it to Tuesday, let alone the end of the week.
The scent of food from all over Latin America mixed with music that could be heard for miles to form a gravitational force from which anyone passing by could not have escaped. The Calle Ocho Festival took over a portion of SW 8th Street and transformed it into a carnival.
Rather than march for gay rights, Equality Florida decided to go ahead and host a bar crawl for gay rights. Marching doesn't really work in Miami, but get bars involved and people will take notice. -- Elvis Ramirez
