The Herald Marvels At Internet

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 06:28:08 PM

How many newspaper reporters does it take to write a dumb article? Apparently three.

Today’s Miami Herald has Jay Weaver, Todd Wright and Evan S. Benn on the trail of online escort services in the wake of Spitzergate. These intrepid scribes enlighten readers about the proliferation of high-priced hos advertising their talents on the web. The kicker line reads: “The Internet has made hiring a prostitute almost as easy as buying a book from Amazon.”

Gee, really? Wow! I did not know that! This Internet thing is so freaking amazing! I gotta run out and get me a Comcast connection now! -- Francisco Alvarado

What is AMAZING about the Spitzer Scandal is that in the center of the journalism world, Manhattan, and of gossip, Miami, for apparently TEN YEARS a very prominent PUBLIC OFFICIAL from a very prominent real estate mega-family was hiring hookers and NO ONE NOTICED! What does this say about the over-priced, over-hyped reporters on tv, in gossip columns like the New York Post's 'Page Six' and endless tv and internet sites? The plain simple truth is except for smaller weeklies sometimes having an "intrepid" reporter, most major daily and electronic media reporters live on press releases and free food at receptions. No wonder scandal after scandal "errupts" apparently out of nowhere in this country.
