Dan Uggla’s All Star Night Not So Hot

Categories: Sports

It was supposed to be a night to remember for Marlins All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla. Instead, it was a night fit for several shots of Schnapps with a Vicodin chaser. In what ended up becoming the longest All-Star game in history, Uggla had himself the roughest night imaginable going 0-4 at the plate – including three strikeouts – and committing three errors on the night.

In the 10th Uggla had a chance to hit the go-ahead run for the National League with runners at the corners, but he hit into an inning ending double play. In the 13th inning, he again had a shot to play hero with runners in scoring position, but struck out on three pitches. But wait! There’s more! Uggla committed an All-Star Game record three errors with two coming in the bottom of the 10th that nearly cost the NL the game. The NL eventually lost in the 15th, but luckily it wasn’t Uggla’s fault.

It was the kind of game that could stay with a player and affect the rest of his season. But for all the bad press (and smarmy douchebaggy blog commentary) he receives today, no one is more upset about the dreadful night than the man himself. And that can only mean good things for the Marlins in the second half of the season. What could be better than a pissed off Dan Uggla at the plate, ready to take out his anger on NL pitching and smash some baseballs over the walls?
