Over the Weekend - Scarface, Biz Markie and Dirty Bird
Miami's heat index seems finally to be falling. Nights don't feel like an asphyxiophilia's (look it up) dream. While we still have a few more months of crazy weather and hurricane threats, the city's low-season is finally coming to an end and with it come back the tourists and big events. Yep, before you know it December will be here along with Art Basel. But for now, here is what you missed over the weekend:
Scarface 25th Anniversary at Gusman Center
Say 'ello to my little friend -- er, which happens to be a pictorial recap of the Gusman's tribute to Miami's ultimate cinema representation. Al Pacino unfortunately was a no show, instead other people in the film that we don't care about showed up to talk about it.
James Brown Tribute Concert with Spam All-Stars at the Lincoln Center
Yes, New Times' reach goes all the way to New York, so we took the chance to stop by the Lincoln Center's tribute concert to James Brown which featured Miami's own Spam All-Stars.
Animal House with Blu Jemz and Danny Daze at Poplife
New York DJ Blu Jemz and Danny Daze banged out the music for Poplife's frat-party-meets-zoo inspired party Saturday at White Room. We hadn't see a keg stand done since our college years -- er, okay perhaps more recent than that. Click here to view the full slideshow.
Biz Markie at Parkwest
How many times have we drunkenly sung "Just A Friend"? We've lost count, but Biz Markie was at Parkwest Saturday night, unfortunately, not to perform, instead he took over the turntables. Click here to view the full slideshow.
Dirty Bird Wedding with Christian and Justin Martin at Shine
Last time the Dirty Bird crew came to Miami, they stopped by the Vagabond and brought Worthy along for the ride. This weekend the San Francisco label took over Shine at the Shelborne in Miami Beach with brothers Christian and Justin Martin on the decks. Click here to view the full slideshow.
