Miami: The Beautiful and the Dumb

According to Travel + Leisure's latest rankings of "America's Favorite Cities" tourists think Miami natives are pretty, but dumb. The magazine invited readers to fill out a web survey to rank 25 American cities by various categories.

Miami took top honors for having the most attractive people, and came in second for most stylish populace. We ranked in the top 5 for all nightlife categories, and came in third for both "favorite spring break destination" and best place to have a "wild weekend."

Continuing the theme of ranking high in frivolous categories, and low in practical matters we ranked near the bottom for our public transportation system and most cultural categories (including 17th for best art galleries. Wynwood is gonna be pissed).

Visitors also seem to think we're both exceptionally dumb (24th in intelligence) and mean (21st in friendliest). Why are we going to be nice to this tourist trash that think we're all pretty outside and vapid on the inside?

we met these 3 beautiful girls from Estonia on Ocean Drive around 6:30 pm on Friday and took the by limo (these guys are great, try www.MiamiLimoIntl.com) to LIV night club in the Fountain Blu and man what a great night. VIP table and $3,000 later we all partied like rock stars.

The problem with Miami's absence of any kind of intellegentsia is that it's not going to change in the forseeable future. As long as we men continue to pander to beautiful women, showering them with gifts and praise, with no expectations of any kind of intelligent contributions from them, these women are going to continue living, working (sometimes), and voting (rarely) in Miami. These women - and the men who facilitate their lifestyles - are going to continue to dominate our city's scene. On one hand, we should expect more as guys. On the other hand, those of us who have a problem with these scene should move out, as so many have done before.
Speaking from the perspective of a person who's lived in several other cities, and moved to Miami a little less than a year ago, the rankings are one the money. Miami is a beautiful place with lots of beautiful people, but most of them have an attitude that sucks. It's very difficult to network and be progressive when people are cold, abbrasive, and less than genuine. Only when you visit NY, DC, Chicago... Do you realize how ignorant and trashy the attitude and way of life is for so many of the "beautiful" people in Miami.

What you call "frivolous" are industry staples to our local economy (ie Hospitality). Being ranked 24th in a country with over 10,000 cities does not make us Cleveland. Dumbass
