McCain's Joe the Plumber Fall Tour Continues in Miami

McCain spoke at FIU Today and continued his strange little obsession with Joe the Plumber. After McCain used him as some weird metaphor in Wednesday's debate, he's been thrust into the national spotlight. And the press has uncovered that the flat tax happy tradesman, oops, doesn't even have his plumbing license and may not have paid his income taxes. Oh, and his name isn't even really Joe. Ok, whatever. We are so over Joe the Plumber, but McCain sure isn't, he even dubbed him "Jose el Plumber".

Not only that, but McCain blamed Obama for the inquires into Joe's formerly anonymous life at the FIU rally.

``He didn't ask for Sen. Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Sen. Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks.''

Um, McCain, you brought him into the spotlight. You dubbed him Joe the Plumber. You should take the blame. If you're at least trying to dodge responsibility, shift it to the media. Like you did for Sarah Palin's, how do we say, less than brilliant interviews.

Besides that, the main news out of the rally is that a bunch of Florida Republicans said McCain can still turn things around here, and maybe they're right.

As we've said before, McCain absolutely has to win Florida, and he stated as much. He can win it and still lose overall, but if he doesn't win Florida he has slim chances of redecorating the Oval Office. Survey USA's poll yesterday shows McCain up by 2% in the State, and is the first poll this month to show McCain with the advantage. However, Obama is still up in most other polls, and Real Clear Politics' average currently has him up by 3.2%. But, that's less then the 5% he was at earlier this week.

Obama's not in the clear yet, but McCain is going to have to come up with something better than defending Joe the Plumber's dignity to catch up.
