Will There Be Any Miamians in Obama's Administration?

Categories: Politicks
BarackObama-Miami3.jpg (JPEG Image, 285x285 pixels).jpgNot only did Barack Obama pass over Manny Diaz as secretary of HUD, but also he is widely expected to name Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion as head of his newly created Office of Urban Policy, another position Diaz was considered in the running for. But with the nasty habit our most powerful local congresswoman has of hanging up on Obama, wouldn't it be nice if someone in Washington had the Magic City's best interests at heart? Anyone? Please?

Carol Browner, who was director of the EPA in the (surprise, surprise) Clinton administration, yesterday was named assistant to the president for energy and climate change, or as everyone calls it, "energy czar." Browner was born in Miami, and both of her parents were MDCC professors. So there's that, but how about someone with current connections?

The Herald is reporting that Miami-Dade aviation chief Jose Abreu, a Republican, is being considered for a top position in the Department of Transportation, maybe even the top position. He also served as the state's secretary of transportation under Jeb Bush.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen beat Annette Taddeo in her latest congressional race, but Ros-Lehtinen's phone-slamming antics bring a bit of irony to the fact that Taddeo is in the mix to named the head of the Small Business Administration.

So Manny has been pretty much passed over (hmmm, what to do next, Mr. Diaz?), but one or two Miamians might soon be packing their bags for D.C.
