New Gitmo Policies, Same as the Old Gitmo Policies?

It is common knowledge among conservative bloggers that the mainstream media was totally in the tank for Barack Obama during the whole election, but now that he's actually president, it seems they don't really know what to do with themselves. So they've reverted back to the only thing they've known for the past eight years: trying to undermine the president at every turn with their dastardly methods of reporting and analysis.

Politico's top story today is titled, "Why the Gitmo policies may not change," with the main thesis that Obama's order to close the Guantánamo Bay detention center might not actually mean anything, at least for a long while.

For example, the order includes what some are calling an "escape hatch," which might allow the CIA to continue with interrogation techniques not prescribed in the Army Field Manuel. Also, since Obama retained Bush's secretary of defense, Robert Gates, he'll be responsible for reviewing the conditions at Gitmo. Will he find unacceptable things he allowed to happen under his watch? Politico thinks not likely.

Of course, things aren't going to change overnight at the center. Some of the practices that opponents deride may very well continue under Obama's watch until the camp is closed down, and even afterward. Although Obama's order might indeed set change in motion, according to Politico, it could be a long time till prisoners feel those effects.
