Armory Weekend in New York, Powered by Miami
![]() |
Ruba Katrib, a 27-year-old assistant curator for MOCA, was imported from Miami to put together a show in New York during the city's most important weekend on its arts calendar, the Armory Show. Called "Ecstatic Truth", the exhibition was an outgrowth of Katrib's master's thesis at Bard's Center for Curatorial Studies and featured two video art pieces by Jannicke LÄker and Julika Rudelius. Pink champagne flutes floated around in the dark, almost detached from the faceless people holding them, while the videos played on loop and Katrib sipped coffee in the one small patch of fluorescent light by the door. Artists from Berlin, old friends, and strangers competed for her attention; several stated they were dying to get back to Miami, especially in light of the brutal winters in New York and Berlin.
It's old news that the art world covets our weather, but who knew they were after our curators, too?
