Herald Cutting 175, Ceases International Edition

Categories: Media Watch
What can be said about the newspaper meltdown that hasn't already been said?

The Miami Herald announced today it's letting 175 people go, reducing the salaries of anyone making more than $25k, slimming page size down, and ceasing publications of the international edition.

With the layoffs and the elimination of 30 open positions, that's 19% of The Herald's total remaining workforce. The Associated Press is reporting that that includes 33 full-time and eight part-time newsroom positions.

The company will also be leasing out a floor of its offices on Biscayne Bay, and has already found a paying tenant: Brown Mackie College, according to SFBJ
