Just Who Was That Guy Police Shot After a SoBe Rampage? Cops Still Aren't Sure

One of the strangest rampages in South Beach history -- which is saying something -- ended last Wednesday with police shooting and killing the suspect in North Miami-Dade.
Miami Beach Police ID'd the suspect as Oswain Brentall Walcott, a 22-year-old wanted in Georgia for breaking into a restaurant. When officers approached him in South Beach to question him in connection with the slaying of 18-year-old Paul Bradley -- a movie theater employee found dead near 10th Street and Lenox Avenue -- he bolted.
Before cops caught up with him, as reported by the Herald, he broke into a SoBe apartment, where he kept a family hostage at knife-point for 12 hours and fondled a man; broke into an apartment in Northeast Miami-Dade and maybe threw a woman off a third-floor balcony; and finally, confronted officers at 11900 NE 16th Ave., where they shot and killed him.
As if the story wasn't strange enough, the man's identity has now been thrown into question. The Augusta Chronicle in Georgia reported this weekend that a man with the eerily similar name of Oswain Brentnol Walcott is already serving a jail sentence in Georgia for robbery and couldn't have been in Florida.
Det. Aida Fina-Milian, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade PD, tells Riptide that her department never released any names for the suspect and is still trying to ID him. Det. Juan Sanchez, a Miami Beach PD spokesman, meanwhile, says that since county cops are leading the investigation, he has no information on the suspect's ID.
