The only elongated yelp wannabe soccer announcers in Miami will be proclaiming anytime soon is, "Nooooooooooooooooooo!" As in no "gooooooooool!"

Major League Soccer, FC Barcelona, and Marcelo Claure jointly announced today that a plan to bring an expansion team to Miami has ended "due to adverse market conditions."

In the press release Claure leaves the possibility open for another try in the hopefully non-depressed future, ""I remain a believer in MLS and the future of professional soccer in America... particularly in South Florida." *wink* *wink*

Though, could professional underwear model and part-time soccer star David Beckham be to blame?

"The economic picture changes if David Beckham does not return to MLS," Claure claimed to El Deber earlier this week.

And what do you know, just today Beckham, who has been on loan to AC Milan since January, announced today that he'd rather stay in Italy than return to the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Yadda, yadda, yadda, economy. It's a lot more fun to blame it on Beckham.
