44 Percent of New Americans Last Year Were Hispanics

Categories: News
You don't have to tell Miamians that Hispanics make up an important, ever-growing population. The Magic City decades ago became a firmly Hispanic town, but new statistics show America itself is increasingly being infused with a Latin beat at an increasingly faster pace.

A little more than a million people became American citizens in fiscal 2008. About 44 percent, or 461,317, of those were Hispanics, according to the the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
