Alex Sink Announces Governor Bid

Well, that didn't take long at all. Just over 24 hours after Charlie Crist announced he will not seek re-election, and instead concentrate on his Senate bid, Florida's CFO Alex Sink has officially announced her intentions to run for Governor.

Sink, one of only two democrats to hold state-wide elected office, was originally mentioned as a possible senate candidate, but then announced she'd only seek re-election as CFO. Most suspected that she really had her eye on the Governor's seat, and it's no surprise that when the job opened up she wasted no time pouncing.

A popular figure in Florida's democratic party, it's very likely that she won't face much of a challenge in the primary. In any event, she's the guaranteed early front runner in the primary, if not the main race itself.

Sink would be Florida's first female governor. She's also married to Bill McBride, who ran as the democratic candidate for Governor himself in 2002 against Jeb Bush, after beating Janet Reno in the primary.

The news also creates an open-seat race for CFO.
