If you're already tired of 2010 election news, well get ready for 2012. State Rep. Marcelo Llorente officially announced his intentions today to run for Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Currently Mayor Carlos Alavarez won't be vacating the position for more than three years, but it never hurts to get a head start.

Llorente, a Cuban-American Republican has represented district 116 out in the Hammocks and parts of Kendall Lakes since 2002, a year after he graduated from law school. Facing term limits, he was planning to run for state Senate in 2010, but fell behind in fundraising and has now aimed his sights on the Mayor's office.

We don't really know that much about 32 year-old Llorente. The only thing we've written about him before is that he likes to play games of pick-up basketball with his fellow representatives, lobbyists and assorted journalists up in Tallahassee.
Maybe the official press release sheds some light on him.

"I'll embrace and promote our county's rich diversity and set out a vision and platform focusing on creating jobs, improving our inadequate infrastructure and promoting an enriched and sustainable quality of life for all Miami-Dade residents," Llorente says in the statement.

All politicians say that, but what makes you special Marcelo? We would like to know.

But, with more than three years until anyone actually goes to the polls, I'm sure we'll learn much more.
