Jeb Bush Nets a Whopping Six Percent in Republican Presidential Poll

Jeb Bush is only 56. That's down right youthful in Republican politician terms. So much life ahead of him, that one. But what will he fill it with? That seems to be the question. He declined to run for Senate. A third-term as governor is nothing more than a fairy tale. What about those whispers that he'll run for president one day?

If that's really Jeb's deepest desires he has a lot of work cut out in front of him. A recent CNN poll of Republicans suggests only 6 percent of the party want him to be their nominee in 2012.

Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney tie for first place with about 21% of the party's support each. Really Republicans? Romeny we understand, but Huckabee and Palin? This poll is certainly good news for President Obama.

Newt Gingrich also scores 13% of the vote. We're not sure if Charlie Crist was specifically mentioned or not, but everyone else got lumped in with the "others" and only netted 10% combined.

More disturbing to us, is that none of these candidates are exactly moderates. Meaning, they all have little hope for appealing to the moderate and independent voters that Republicans desperately need to win.

So, according to most liberals, Mike Huckabee either (i) won't make it out of the primary because he is hated by the business community or (ii) if nominated, would never beat Obama because he is too much of an extremist. (Sounds sort of contradictory to me -- i.e., wouldn't the general public like him because he is hated by the business world??)

At any rate, I will take my bets on Huckabee. I will go so far to predict: either Obama is set to be reelected by 2011 (in which case Huckabee won't run) or else Huckabee will win the nomination and beat Obama.

Everything else is dribble.

In the last four polls (including this one), Huckabee has been on top -- and he wins the greater percentage of independents and moderates than any other republican candidate (so much for your analysis). In addition, in this poll, they provide favorable/unfavorable ratios (which you did not provide) among independents and republicans, and Huckabee is the best with a +20 (Romney with a +13 and Palin with a +3).

Doesn't appeal to moderates and independents -- right??

Well stated voter. Governor Huckabee appeals to a much wider audience than he gets credit for and has been very well-received even by moderate liberals who know him from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. He is also one of the only nationally recognized conservative to have opposed even the first bailout. The Governor will be a national force in the 2012 Republican primaries, you can bet on that.
