The decision to name Joel Connable as Best News Anchor in our "Best of Miami" issue came months ago. Then WTVJ had to go and fire him, and no one is really sure why. Not even Connable, who's suing the last-place station.

WTVJ, an NBC-owned and -operated station (until they can unload it, anyway), says Connable agreed to take a free trip in exchange for featuring a luxury hotel in St. Thomas in a report. SFLTV, a blog that keeps a keen eye on the local news, landed an interview with Connable. He explains his side of the story and says he did nothing wrong. He didn't even end up going on the trip.

"I did not solicit favors from anybody... and I am truly hurt by the allegations," Connable tells the blog.

The rumor, though, is that NBC just wanted Connable and his sizable paycheck out of the way.

I have a moving company that joel used to relocate into a new apt. There is no way Joel would even consider mentioning what a great job we did or recommend us on air ..(which I would have loved)as he was and IS a very moral,fair and ethical person !!!

NBC did the right thing. Mr Connable can claim that,"I did not solicit favors from anybody... and I am truly hurt by the allegations," but you did do something wrong or would not be in this mess. NBC ratings have been dropping by the second. They need fresh, motivated, humble and most importantly talented anchors who are going to get the story FIRST. Just like any other job their is a code of ethic that all employees must follow..... and you Mr. Connable broke that code of ethic. Plus, that sizeable paycheck should be able to take Mr. Connable on a nice long HONEST vacation. Fair is fair!!!!!!

NBC-6 did the right thing? Obviously, the "Bill Gates" poster works for the station's brass. What reason did the station come up with for also kicking Kelly Craig to the curb? It's paycheck-based, pure and simple, but they need to find some lame excuse to "do the deed" to avoid paying more money out in lawsuits. I miss both Kelly AND Joel. They brought their unique personalities to the news along with their professionalism and experience.
