I don't know if you've been following the recent mess going on in the New York State legislature, but one of the key figures behind it reportedly considering a run for Mel Martinez's soon-to-be vacated senate seat. Lucky us!

Tom Galisano is the billionaire founder of Paychex, a payroll processing company, and co-owns the Buffalo Sabres hockey team. In the past 15 years he has run for New York Governor three times on the Independence Party ticket, spending a combined $93 million of his own money, and only managed to snag 14% of the voted in 2002, his best showing. Then, this month, he took credit for some behind the scenes maneuvering that passed control of the New York senate back to Republicans, after which a mixture of insanity and hilarious unfolded.

Well, last month he decided to change his residency to Florida. He owns a home in Naples, and claims escaping New York's income tax would save him $13,800 a day.

Now he wants to run for Senate, maybe, because what better way to introduce yourself to your new neighbors?

The Jacksonville Observer reports that Golisano would actually run as a democrat or Independence party candidate, because he just wants to be as politically confusing as possible. And perhaps, because Bob Smith already has the wacky Florida retiree vote in the bag on the Republican side.
