Cars float down Meridian Avenue near 16th Street.

A little after noon, some serious storms blew through South Beach and the rest of Miami. I was in my apartment on Meridian Avenue at the time and it was a hellacious thunderstorm -- 60 mph winds, about an hour straight of hail, palm fronds flying through the air. The whole works.

Still, it was a shock to walk out my front door around 5:30 p.m. to find nearly two feet of water coursing through the streets. May was one of the wettest months on record, and metereologists are saying that more than a foot of water fell on SoBe this afternoon. Clearly, the drainage systems are overwhlemed.

Click through the jump to see fifteen more photos of the carnage. And look for the lovely gold Saturn waterlogged past the steering wheel -- that's mine! (Single tear ...)
