Does that headline make any sense to you? We're feeling a touch of the surreal today, so we went with that over "Standard Hotels Teams with Quicksilver," which is indeed what this is all about.
André Balazs' Standard boutique hotel chain teamed up with Quicksilver, titan of the mall surf store industry, to produce a line of shorts based on each of the four Standard locations. They're a bit retro, with a '70s length that hits mid-thigh, but made with modern materials and fits. Miami's version is white with a yellowy-orange waistband and hems.
To make them more connected to the city, the inside waistband includes a mysterious list of local addresses. I never thought I'd have to give a spoiler alert when talking about board shorts, but if you want to experience the thrill of a secret treasure map, here is your *spoiler alert*
. They're all Cuban cafés. The list of five includes David's Café II, Versailles, El Rey de las Fritas, El Palacio de los Jugos, and Casa Juancho. If you're a frequenter of these places and start seeing the fancy-type people who stay at boutique hotels wander in slightly bemused while checking the inside of their shorts, you'll know why.
The shorts go for $75, and you can buy them at a vending machine inside the Standard or online
. Ladies, for once you get the short end of the fashion stick. Yes, there's a bikini available
, but it's not specially designed for each city.
