Peel the Vote '09: Shock Jock for Commish

He didn't win the mayor's seat in 2005, but Spanish-language radio host Enrique Santos is considering a second run at public office.

The popular shock jock, who mans the morning show for La Kalle 98.3, is looking to join the already crowded race to take over Miami City Commissioner Joe Sanchez's seat. It has been a major topic of discussion on his show for the past four days, and he's set up a Facebook page seeking supporters.

The 34-year-old former North Miami cop became a household name in the Magic City when in 2003, as the morning show host at El Zol 95.7, he crank-called Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.

The Cuban-American jokester could definitely add some much-needed excitement to an otherwise dull election season. Even the mayor's race, pitting Sanchez versus Commissioner Tomas Regalado, has been rather tepid. Gone are the days when we had the likes of Miriam Alonso to amuse us with her divisive campaign tactics.
