Everglades Correctional Officer Shamel Watson thought he was negotiating with an inmate's family member to smuggle in 1 lb of marijuana, 4 ounce of cocaine, and two cellphones to the inmate. Everglades Correctional Officer Shamel Watson is apparently stupid.

When he went to go collect the contraband in Collier County instead of being met by an inmate's family member, he was met by a Collier County Sheriff's deputy and promptly arrested.

"I am appalled with the behavior of this officer and want to send a strong message that we will not tolerate criminal behavior inside our prisons by inmates or staff," said Department of Corrections Secretary Walt McNeil in a statement.

Watson will be immediately terminated, and McNeil promises he'll be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law. Which mean he might be the former prison guard who winds up in prison.
