Sean Casey's Ex-Therapist Used Dubious Techniques

Today at 2 p.m., Sean Casey will make his case before Judge John Thornton not to seal secretly recorded conversations the 35-year-old Bostonian had with his former lawyer Milton Hirsch and ex-therapist Michael Rappaport.
Casey claims the conversations prove Hirsch and Rappaport lied on the stand when they denied advising him to leave the country. In 2004, after Chile deported him to the States, Casey pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run death of an elderly woman, Marie Montgomery.
While Hirsch is certainly a familiar name in Miami-Dade's political landscape, Rappaport is someone I didn't have much history about.
Well, Casey's mother, Genevieve, was kind enough to point Banana Republican to a 1993 New Times article that shed some light on Rappaport. The report exposed how Rappaport had used controversial visualization and relaxation exercises to convince accused child molester Ileana Fuster to testify against her husband Frank. The couple had been charged with molesting eight children who were under her care.
The New Times article quoted a UC-Berkeley social psychologist named Richard Ofshe, who concluded that Rappaport had coerced a confession from Ileana Fuster. Rappaport also told the story's author, Debbie Nathan, that he allowed then-State Attorney Janet Reno to meet with Fuster without her lawyer being present.
