Scooterist Dies in Hit-and-Run on Causeway as Witnesses Drive By

Categories: Crime
Twenty-one-year-old Geraldo Pagano of Orlando was driving his scooter over the wet and rainy 79th Street Causeway just before midnight yesterday when he lost control. He fell to the ground but managed to pick himself up. Then a gray four-door Kia hit him, sending Pagano and the scooter flying into the air. The driver of the Kia didn't bother to stop.

Pagano was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit and later died.

Police say video of the accident shows that some drivers who witnessed the event stopped but didn't wait for police to arrive.

The Kia was recovered this morning at 1125 NE 80th St., but no information on arrests was released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit at 305-603-6525 or Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
