Miami has never been a huge college basketball town. There was a bit of buzz when FIU reeled in Isiah Thomas, but they're off to a 5-13 start. Sorry Zeke, maybe things will turn around when you can make an impact on recruiting.

Then you've got the Miami Hurricanes. Overshadowed at home by University of Miami's legendary Football and Baseball programs. Overshadowed in the potent ACC by perennial powerhouses like Duke and North Carolina.

But the team, in its sixth year under Frank Haith, is off to a strong start with a 14-1 record. Of course they had one of the easiest out-of-conference schedules in the league, but they still notched wins against Minnesota, South Carolina. The only lost came by just one point to conference rival Boston College.

Saturday starts the second half of the season which will see the team exclusively in ACC play, and no one really seems to know how that will turn off for UM. An enigma is how one paper put it.

After losing the dominating Jack McClinton, they've got promising players in James Dews, Dwayne Collins, and Durand Scott which have produced a more well-rounded team.

We should get a glimpse of how good the 'Canes really are in their home game this Saturday against Wake Forest at 6:00 p.m. Wake Forest is definitely in the top half of the ACC, but the 'Canes need a win to keep that pre-conference momentum going.
