Tim Tebow Pro-Life Super Bowl Ad Stirs Up Controversy

Categories: Politicks, Sports
Predictably, Tim Tebow's Super Bowl ad for the politically divisive, anti-gay, and pro-choice group Focus on the Family is causing controversy.

Focus has released few details about the ad, but it will likely feature UF's Heisman winner and his mother, Pam Tebow. Pam notably carried Tim to term despite doctors' health warnings, and the ad is expected to share that story with a pro-life undertone.

Groups such as Women's Media Center, the National Organization for Women, and the Feminist Majority are already calling for CBS to ban the ad from airing during the Super Bowl.

"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year, an event designed to bring Americans together," Jehmu Greene, president of the Women's Media Center, said to USA Today.

CBS has said it approved the script for the ad and will likely air it. But CBS has barred political ads from groups such as MoveOn.org and PETA from the big game and previously refused an ad from a more liberal-leaning Christian organization that was highlighting its accepting policies toward homosexuality.

Now, CBS says it will loosen its guidelines on all advocacy ads and is open to airing any during the game from whichever end of the political spectrum as long as they are "responsibly produced."
