When It Comes to Adoption Rights, Florida House More Concerned with Gun Owners than Gays

The Florida House is looking to finally secure the adoption rights for a discriminated-against group of people. No, not Homosexuals, they're still 100 percent forbidden to adopt children in the Sunshine State. The bill currently cruising through committee is a silly little thing making sure that gun owners can adopt without being discriminated against.

Despite the fact that there doesn't seem to be a case where a gun owner was ever denied the opportunity to adopt a child based solely on their home arsenal, when Republican Rep. Mike Horner inquired about adopting a child he was asked whether or not he owns a gun. Horner worried that he could be turned away because he owned a gun, or worse, that the adoption agencies could be keeping a de facto gun ownership registry. Again, there appears to be little evidence that any of this actually happens.

The bill would prevent adoption agencies from asking prospective parents about firearm ownership, restricting gun ownership, and using gun ownership to determine if someone is a fit parent or not.

According to The Buzz, Republican Rep. Paige Kreegle said that "asking a firearm question was akin to asking about someone's political affiliation, race or religion."

You know what actually is more akin to asking about someone's political affiliation, race or religion? Asking about their sexual orientation. And agencies are still legally allowed, if not encouraged, to do that.

The bill passed Health & Family Services Policy Council unanimously.
