District 25 Void: Miami Lakes Mayor Pizzi to Announce Candidacy, Dems Eye Annette Taddeo

Categories: Politicks
Now that Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart is mildly carpetbagging his way over to Congressional District 21 to run for the more Republican-friendly seat his elder brother is vacating, there's a big void in District 25.

Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi will announce his candidacy, according to Eye on Miami. The blog cites his "work on the side of the public against powerful, special interests." Pizzi, an independent, according to Politico, will run as a Republican, according to the Miami Herald.

Pizzi could face a primary against a bevy of connected state lawmakers, including state senators Alex Diaz de la Portilla and Alex Villalobos and state Rep. David Rivera.

Meanwhile, Naked Politics has a tip that Annette Taddeo, the entrepeneur who ran against Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in 2008, was seen dining at Soyka with House majority leader Steny Hoyer.

Taddeo said she's be open to running for the seat but would support Joe Garcia if he decided to enter the race. Garcia, currently in a post with the Department of Energy, ran in District 25 in 2008 and has been giving mixed signals as to whether he'll run again. Another potential Democratic candidate, Commissioner Katie Sorenson, says she won't run.
