Get a Date with the Yuppy Club at the Bookstore in the Grove

Contrary to conventional thinking, chicks dig guys who read. But how can the solitary act of enjoying a good book actually get you girls? Do it in public.

On the first Tuesday of every month the Bookstore in the Grove hosts the Young Professional's Book Club. Join up because like every library, literary center, and creative writing program, it's just a somewhat highbrow excuse to hang out, hook up, and get drunk. There will be inebriants, hot new works of contemporary lit, lots of ladies, and you.

Serving as this month's social lubricant is the 2009 National Book Award winner Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. The novel tells of the day -- August 7, 1974 -- when a tightrope walker ran, danced, and leapt between the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. Meanwhile, thousands of feet below, there are millions of people on seemingly solid ground. But the earth can always shift. Esquire called it: "The first great 9/11 book."

Sounds weighty? Well, it's serious literature for the serious literateur and that's seriously admirable. So go get your discounted copy at the Bookstore in the Grove by telling them you're a clubber. Then show up March 2 at 8 p.m. sharp, ready to woo the women with your witty and insightful commentary. You'll be surprised how quickly some young, lovely lady asks to see your Dostoyevsky.
