Monday: Show off the resilience of your liver by going out on a Monday night. The party Duchess at the Mondrian Hotel's Sunset Lounge is free. But lucky for your liver, the drinks are not.

Wednesday: As the story goes, upon finding Rod Stewart in his recording studio, record producer Joe Meek put his fingers in his ears and screamed until Stewart left the building. That's our kind of guy. A sort-of anti-Phil Spector, Meek was rock's first independent record producer in Britain although he was tone deaf and could play no instruments. This Wednesday, an assembly of local artists will present "Tribute: A Summoning," based on the life and death of Meek. The performance, choreographed by Ana Mendez, is described by artist/organizer Ricardo Guerrero as "a progression of movements with flurries of dance." No, it's not free but it could be the best $10 you've spent in a while.
