Pete Hernandez has handed in his resignation.
Miami City Manager Pete Hernandez has handed in his resignation, two of Riptide's sources at City Hall have confirmed.

Herandez's ouster is a major victory for Mayor Tomas Regalado, clearing the way for Regalado to bring in an ally to fill the slot.

Sources say that Regalado confronted Hernandez yesterday about the Securities and Exchange Commission investigation of city finances. (The SEC wants to know if Miami misled bond investors.)

The mayor allegedly told Hernandez that the scandal was "the responsibility" of the city manager, one source says.

Regalado is presently waiting for a formal letter from Hernandez before making the announcement. It's unclear for now who will replace Hernandez.

Regalado's chief of staff, Tony Crapp Jr., is one possibility.

Hernandez was appointed by former Mayor Manny Diaz and led the charge to impliment Diaz's aggressive development plans in the city -- plans which Regalado vehemently opposed on the campaign trail.
