Scott Galvin Enters Race to Replace Kendrick Meek, Which is Apparently Interesting Because He's White and Gay

As Kendrick Meek leaves to pursue the Senate seat, just about everyone and their ex-spouse has filed to run for his congressional seat in District 17. Candidates Yolly Roberson and Phillip J. Brutus used to be married.

Now, North Miami councilman Scott Galvin has thrown his hat into the crowded ring. The Herald's Beth Reinhard cuts to the slightly un-PC chase and points out he's openly gay and openly white. "Could the black and Haitian vote become so diluted that a white candidate could persevere?" she writes.

It's no secret that District 17 was drawn so that an African-American candidate could win, and since many of the district's residents and a handful of the candidates are Haitian-American, the race could see the first Haitian-American headed to Congress.

Being one of the most Democratic districts in the nation means the real contest will be decided in the primary. It'll be interesting to so who's left as a serious contender come August.
