Tim Tebow's Prayer Request at Scouting Combine Met With "Shut the F*ck Up"

Some of us see faith as a very personal matter. Others of us want to shout our faith from the rooftop. Tim Tebow, he of the Bible-passage eye black and religious right commercials, definitely falls into the latter category.

Tebow is participating in the NFL scouting combine, and players are given what's known as the Wonderlic test. Before Tebow's group took the 12-minute, 50-question exam, he asked the proctor if everyone could bow their heads in prayer -- you know, before asking any of the other players if they wanted to pray.

According to NBC Sports, this is how one of the other players responded: "Shut the fuck up." Other players in the room cracked up.

NBC Sports theorizes that Tebow's very public religious zeal could be a problem for some NFL teams. In a perfect world, Tebow's fundamental faith shouldn't be disrespected any more than he should push it on others.

I completely disagree with "Christians have to do this." No, they don't. Assuming that everything they believe is true, the way that they engage the world actually has the opposite effect - turning people OFF of Jesus. A lot of them don't care. That's very telling. "I don't care if they get into Heaven or not, I warned 'em!" Somehow I don't think that's what Jesus had in mind. There is a way, a time and a place to show people the gospel.
A big cup of STFU to everyone who pushes their religion down the rest of our throats, then acts in horror when we say that we are not interested. I am so glad that player spoke up to this jerk!! Example: I am at a business lunch recently, and one member says shall we bless the food? Now if she wishes to bless her food quietly, that is her business, but no, she turns into Billy Graham and invokes JC, and the whole gang, while the Atheist, and three Jews at the table are supposed to politely permit this enitirely inappropriate affront. When did it become OK for people to assume that their religion is THE ONE, and therefore they are permitted to force this on us in public? Because it was a business lunch, and not the place for First Amendment debates, the four of us sat quietly while she blathered on. We chose the higher road. Even had we pointed out to her then, or in private, how inappropriate she acted, the usual response is "why would anyone object to a prayer?" as though we were evil people. Many (not all) fundamentalists simply have no clue about social behavior in a multi-cultural world. Harmless? Perhaps in the great scheme of things, no one died after all. But offensive? You're damn right! So to my Christian friends, please STFU about your religion in public places.

Let him say what he wishes. It was just a small question. christians have to do what he does. It's mandated to share your faith one way or another.

What if the players in the room were Jewish, or Muslim, or Hindu... I'm sure if the tables were turned and someone speaking to a group he was involved in asked the all to kneel and praise Allah, Mr. Tebow would stand up and walk out of the room. Same applies for Christianity or any other "mainstream" religion...not everyone wants to or needs to be saved.
We are looking at this from our vantage point. What about Tebow's? In his mind, he was being a team player and asking God to help everyone pass the test. Tebow is brainwashed by a faith whose believers think they actually have the power to SAVE others. I hope he makes the NFL. It will expose the evangelicals to an audience that will not tolerate their self-righteousness.
The more someone say that they are a Christian, the more I doubt them. If you are a Christian, just do Christian things. Don't talk about it. Do it. And I do not mean praying in public so that everyone will see you.
Faith is not personal. Faith--whether it's Christian, Muslim, atheist, Hindu, whatever--absolutely affects the way we interact with others. Faith is our belief about humanity; it SHOULD affect the people around us. And that's what's happening here.
It doesn't sound like he was trying to force it down anyone's throat. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your religious faith

A significantly large group of Americans are Fundamentalist/Evangelical Christians. No one in politics or commerce wants to alienate them. For that reason, many of them seem to feel that no one will object to their behavior. Many Americans feel otherwise. One cannot readily teach someone to be respectful of others' views. (Look at the acrimony that has characterized national politics since the beginning of the 2008 campaign.) I do not want to subjected to proselytizing be members of any faith. I feel strongly enough about it to boycott an athlete's "sponsors" and the sponsors of broadcasts of his team's games (and to so notify those sponsors). A very large number of Americans share my feelings. I remind Mr. Tebow that if one wishes to live in a theocratic society, then one is free to relocate to one. Patriotic Americans should work to keep fundamentalist/evangelical religion and radical politics out of the entertainment industry. This is in line with most Americans' values and a matter of simple respect for others. I doubt that Mr. Tebow would be pleased if the entertainment that he chooses to view were marred by proselytizing from adherents of a non-Christian religion. I'm sure he believes the values of the "Golden Rule." He seems to ignore it regularly with respect to the "selling" of his particular brand of religion.
I want to know which player told Tebow off. I would like to buy him a beer.

Tebow is an Evangelical Christian. That first word means that you believe in 'spreading the Word'. He would be a hypocrite if he didn't talk about and try to share his beliefs with others.
Finally! Someone did it. Can you imagine the reaction people would have towards someone who openly and forcefully discussed their Islamic or Jewish beliefs? They would flip out. These double standards should not be welcome, and I'm glad someone finally shut Tebow down.
I go to Church every Sunday and I believe in the Lord. That is my choice. I'm glad somebody told Tebow to STFU because he is an arrogant little prick who hides behind his "religious" values and as Americans we have an understanding of separation of Church and State; no one should be forced into another's religion. Tebow should've at least asked the room if it was okay, not just make the assumption. And Groo, which spelling mistakes were you referring to? I didn't catch one.

I would rather have a leader that believes in something as opposed to most young people that believe in nothing!
