Miami Beach Could Be Affected By Oil Spill, More So Than West Coast

• i live in miami beach and i am absolutly outraged that this is happening. i have no clue wether to stay or move yet again thanks BP effing douches

• I hope it definetly doesn't arrive to Miami because I'm going to Miami on the 9th of July and specially when I love giving bread to the birds, poor animals they don't deserve to be die for some stupid oil spill, I hope that whoever that did this, goes to jail for the eternity, it's just so not fair!!! and why do we need petrol if we've got electric cars, the ones that you can recharge and there much less expensive than getting the petrol. Going back to subject, i think they should ask help from the Japanese that have amazing technology and that with their help the oil spill will be over, i think they should create barriers or net to keep the oil from moving from coast to coast and rescue the birds, fish, and all kind of animals that are on the way like that there would be less possibility of the animals for being extinct!!!

• I don't think that just hummers and big trucks use fuel; cars, taxis, air planes, boats, etc all use fuel. So until we are all prepared to walk everywhere, we shouldn't blame someone just because his truck gets 18 mpg opposed to a car that gets 22 mpg. Yes this is a tragedy, and yes I believe offshore drilling should come to a halt. However, restrictions should be lifted on drilling in the U.S.

• I think it is ridiculous that the waters and wildlife are being ruined by our country. I do not know and understand everything about this oil spill, but I do know that it is causing major problems and the problems are only going to get worse. Something needs to be done to prevent this from ever happening, no matter what we have to give up to do so. What is more important? I think the waters and the wildlife are more important than people driving around in hummers and big trucks.

• Oil spill diaster Jim Kirwan published on Rense on May 3 that an engineer with 25 years of experience with big machines (in the oil industry?) has the impression BP probably never can cap the broken drilling hole and in that case all the toxic ocean water in the world will destroy wildlife. I reallize that this is not imginary because BP drilled on the edge of what human technology can do. This is not drilling a well and then pumping-up the oil. On the sea bottom which is 5,000 feet below sea level the pressure by the water is already 150 bar. To spuw oil in it, is must have a pressure of at least 150 Bar or 2,200 psi. This is comparable with the pressure in an oxygen cilinder for welding. If the valve of a compressed air cylinder is broken or sheared off, the released pressure will cause the cylinder of 190 lbs to act like a rocket, shooting away quickly. But at the point where the drill hit the oilwell 30,000 feet under the bottom of the sea then one has to add another column of 30,000 feet oil representing about 13000 psi totalling about 15,000 psi. At least this should be the pressure in the well to push the oil up just to the level of the rig. But because the safety valves blew out and even destroyed the rig, there was way more extra pressure over 15,000 psi in that well. It looks impossible to cap the hole 5,000 feet below sea level for after robots failed, BP now tries to position a dome over the hole to catch the oil by sucking it up for 85%. But the oil is squirting immensely into the water drawing and mixing with the water by turbulance. If it is possible to catch 85% of the oil, which is highly questionable, at least 30,000 barrels a day continues spuwing into the sea going in circulation around the earth with the Gulfstream a little later. Now BP thinks to be able to release the pressure in the well by drilling another pipe which can be accomplished in 3 months they say. In the mean time 20 million barrels are circulating the world already if the dome not works. After that drilling nobody knows how long it takes to get some pressure off that big well. Addition of poisonous metanol will poison wildlife and surface active agents will make an emulsion of the oil in water, moving it downwards in super fine particles which are ingested by all wildlife from the surface to the bottom. Though this information is not helping to solve this oil disaster at all, it maybe of any help to be prepaired if they can�t stop it. Bob (chemical enigineer)

• We're a danish couple who have planned a trip to Florida (Orlando, Key west, Miami South Beach, Cruise to Cozumel, Jamaica, Cayman Island and Bahamas. We arrive the 15th of June stay for 3 weeks. Do you think it would be safe to go? What do the say in the news? Do they think the oil will hit the coast of Miami and the Keys, and what about the caribbean? We will not travel there if the birds are covered in oil and suffering and it's not safe to swin in the sea. Hope to get some answers soon.

• Drill Baby Drill, indeed. Thanks to the anti-oil cabal in this country, BP and all other oil countries who want to drill in the U.S have been pushed further and further out to sea by "green" regulations imposed upon them. Safer oil deposits exist on land or lie closer to the shore on the continental shelf. These types of wells are much easier to maintain and contain in the event of a leak. But oil companies are forbidden by U.S. law to drill in these areas. They are instead forced to drill in much deeper waters, like the mile-deep well currently spewing oil. Naturally, these wells are much more difficult to reach, much less fix. All the result of a bone headed "energy policy" with no real plans or goals.

• With all those grease balls from "Jersey Shore" and other doo-wop dagos swimming on Miami Beach, the oil spill won't even be noticable over the already 1/2" of Vitalis coating the ocean water.

• I would bet money that the 5000 barrels a day is 95% OFF the real total. This should get interesting.

• For every SUV with the bumper sticker that says, "Drill Baby Drill". I just want to say I told you so.
