Republican voters may be wild over Marco Rubio, but a new Quinnipiac poll shows that no matter what the situation Charlie Crist would be a more viable general election candidate. In fact, if he decided to run as an independent he leads in the polls. Which doesn't do anything to hush those rumors that Crist indeed is formulating a plan to run without party affiliation.

According to Quinnipiac, Rubio leads Crist by an almost insurmountable 56-33 in the primary. However, Rubio only leads still little-known Democrat Kendrick Meek 42 - 38 in the general election. Crist has a healthier 48-34 lead against Meek.

In a three-way election, Crist would get 32 percent of the vote to Rubio's 30 and Meek's 24.

"Crist would get 30 percent of Republicans, 27 percent of Democrats and 38 percent of independent voters," says Q. Meanwhile, Meek would only get 55 percent of voters from his own party.
