When news broke that Charlie Crist would run for Senate as an independent, it was speculated that he'd spend the rest of his term as governor issuing a few controversial vetoes that would separate him from the Republican party. He already did so with the education bill, and is now dropping hints that he's likely to veto a controversial abortion bill.

"On two fronts it disturbs me," Crist told The Tampa Tribune's editorial board today. "That you would force a woman to go through this procedure . . . almost seems mean-spirited. To have your government impose on you, listen to a lecture, then on top of that, you have to pay for it."

The bill would require that all women in Florida seeking an abortion would be forced to pay for an ultrasound.

The bill went through the legislature, even as democrats tried to block it. Some republican legislators cared about the issue so much that one decided to check out pictures of topless woman while Miami Beach senator Dan Gelber was passionately arguing against the bill.

Crist continued hinting at a possible veto today at an elementary school in Tampa Bay according to The Buzz.

"Their concerns are the same that I have," he said. "While I am pro-life personally, I don't feel inclined to impose my will. The cost would also be challenging to women in this economy and the notion that women would be lectured to is disheartening to me. I can't imagine a more deeply personal decision to make."
