This certainly isn't anything to brag about, but a new study from the University of Maryland shows that between 1970 and 2007, Miami was the target of more terrorists attacks than any other city in America, with the big exception of New York. In fact, New York has been the victim of terrorist attacks 284 times -- more than the rest of the top five combined.

Miami survived 70 attacks during the time frame. San Francisco, D.C., and Los Angeles made up the rest of the top five.

The study took data from the Global Terrorism Database, which shows most of the attacks on Miami took place in the '70s. By far the most active terrorist group in Miami was the anti-Castro cell Omega-7, which was responsible for 13 attacks, none of them fatal. Other groups such as the Luis Boitel Commandos, National Front for the Liberation of Cuba, and the Tontons Macoutes also carried out attacks.

More recent attacks classified as terrorism in Miami were targeted against abortion providers.
