Miami Free Times: World Cup Fever, Skater Silk Screens, and Jonathan Eig
|Have fun in the Great Indoors at the Small Wonders art show.|
Monday: Local silk-screen artist Rocky Grimes is exhibiting his designs in Kidrobot, an über chic toy store in South Beach. You may be inspired to purchase a Grime tee or a Kidrobot Munny, but there's no charge just to look.
Tuesday: Wall Street Journal reporter Jonathan Eig discusses his new book Get Capone: The Secret Plot That Captured America's Most Wanted Gangster at Books & Books. You may have seen his critique of baseball memoirs in last Sunday's New York Times Book Review. The reading is free.
Wednesday: What's free on hump day? Every Wednesday, Locos Por Juana side project Xperimento plays a show at Jazid. No cover!
Thursday: Over sixty South Florida artists have their small-scale paintings, drawings, photos, and sculptures on display at Artformz in Wywood for the "Small Wonders" show. Admission is free, and the art is actually affordable.
Friday: The World Cup starts on Friday and you can channel all that Ole, Ole, Ole energy into a smattering of viewing parties at local bars. We recommend the lively spots of Churchill's Pub, Brazilian joint Botequim Carioca, and Segafredo on Lincoln Road. First up? South Africa vs. Mexico.
