President Obama Coming to Fontainebleau Next Month for Fundraiser With Alex Sink

Democrats love partying at the Fontainebleau. Bill Clinton held a fundraiser at the hotel's club LIV earlier this summer, and President Obama, who's no stranger to the megaresort, will return to town August 18. He'll be on hand to raise funds for the Florida Democratic Party and give a boost to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink by hosting the shindig with her. The only question is whether Kendrick Meek is invited.

The report comes from Naked Politics, which notes the fundraiser comes shortly after the Obama family's previously announced PR stunt family vacation on Florida's Gulf Coast. No word on the price of tickets to the fundraiser, but when the president comes to town, it's never cheap.

No one ever counted Sink completely out of the governor's race, but her fortunes have improved lately thanks to the Republican primary battle brewing between previously unopposed Bill McCollum and insurgent billionaire Rick Scott. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, Sink trails McCollum by just 1 percent in a three-way matchup that includes independent Bud Chiles, and she trails Scott by only 2 percent.

An appearance with the president should do wonders to boost her name recognition among Democrats.

The only question NP raises is why Kendrick Meek isn't on the bill. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel will headline a fundraiser for Meek in D.C. next week, but the POTUS himself hasn't done much heavy lifting for the Senate candidate.

Maybe that's because Meek is now trailing another insurgent billionaire, Jeff Greene, in the Democratic primary. Charlie Crist meanwhile leads the three-way matchup, and D.C. Democrats are rumored to be hopeful they can persuade Crist to caucus with their party if elected.
