The Herald announced the cuts in a story on their own site.
"These actions come in response to the volatility of the economic recovery, a situation that is affecting many industries,'' the article quotes publisher David Landsberg as saying in an email to the staff.
Seven full-time positions will be eliminated in the newsrooms along with two part-time positions. Over at El Nuevo, four newsroom jobs will be cut along with another two part-time positions.
The Herald cut hundreds of jobs in 2008 and 2009. Though the company announced force furloughs for employees this year it hasn't announced a round of layoffs since late last year.
We'll let you know if we hear more.
