Prized 'Canes Recruit Latwan Anderson Ditches Football Team

Categories: Sports
Latwan Anderson came into the University of Miami as the 15th best recruit of the '10 recruiting class in the entire nation according to Rivals.com. Now its unclear if he'll be playing football at Miami, or anywhere for that matter. According to The Herald, Anderson has left the football team to concentrate on track and won't likely ever set foot on the field of Sun Life stadium.

The Herald reports he was upset he was redshirted his first year and hasn't seen time on the football field, but could there be other reasons?

Anderson originally committed to West Virginia, but switched his decision to Miami in March.

"I felt that all things were equal between West Virginia and Miami," Anderson told Sports Illustrated at the time. "The only difference was the football. In my opinion, Miami is far and away closer to winning conference and national championships than West Virginia."

Well, Miami sits at 4-2 right now. We all know the 'Canes have to deal with bandwagon fans, but do they have to deal with bandwagon players too?

Anderson signed with Miami, but recieved his scholarship through the track team. In high school he was ranked 12th in the nation in the indoor 55-meter dash.

Coach Randy Shannon was terse in his response

When asked after practice Wednesday if there was a possibility Anderson might return for spring football, Shannon said, ``I don't know. He's in track. Spring is when track comes in so he's on track scholarship. They're paying his bills so that's track. He'll be in full-time track until the season is over.''

Why did he leave football practices?

``To concentrate on track,'' Shannon said. ``Track is paying his bills.''

Is there a possibility he might transfer, or are you concerned about that?

``He's on track,'' Shannon said.
Since Anderson is considered a walk-on in Football, under NCAA rules he could play football for another team beginning next year.
