• @Caneboss, If you can't see the difference between what Butch Davis was building here and what Randy Shannon is doing then, I'm sorry, you need to look a little harder. You could see the level in improvement in the Miami Hurricanes year after year. You could see the talent that Miami had back then. Just look at the NFL. All those guys are Butch Davis guys. Butch Davis built those powerhouse teams of 00, 01, and 02. He's a better coach and a better recruiter, period. It's not a coincidence that Butch Davis is undefeated vs. Randy Shannon despite playing with inferior talent. There's my point. Open your eyes. Randy Shannon is not the answer. This team constantly makes the same mistakes week in and week out. The players do not get better under Shannon. There is no way in hell that this team should look the way it does and not only lose to a shit team like FSU but get blown out by them. Then follow it up by that pathetic performance vs. Duke. Randy Shannon sucks. Stop being such a fucking blind homer.

• @ CanesBoss I don't really care about the graduation thing to be honest with you. The only reason it's so good is because we don't have the talent to leave college early plain & simple. I don't know who they can bring in to improve the team but I know for sure Shannon isn't the answer. I haven't been buying season tickets to attend the Graduation, watch these kids do their homework or take their tests...I buy tickets to watch them play football. I don't care how they're doing in the classroom that's for their parents to worry about.

• @ED HAnd he was very smart to navigate track scholarships into football scholarships ala Santana Moss and a few others. We didnt skip a beat. We played the young players we had just bought in, just as much as we played Spence, Benjamin, and Johnson while they were young. Same thing we did with Moss, Wayne, and Morgan. Give the man a break! And Butch did nt have the Student-Athletes doing as well as they are which it is on the coach to make sure these guys handle their Academics too. Which he has pressure on him to make sure they prioritize. 2 and 3 loss season with 100% graduation rates are excellent at any other school, Miami, fire the idiot, he has no idea of what he's doing. And bring in who thats gonna do better for the money you can offer??? Crickets....

• @ UF Alumnus You sound pretty pathetic when you are on a Miami board trying to talk up UF. UF is a weak state school that will take almost anybody with a 3.0 GPA. Under no circumstances has it ever been close to a quality academic institution, despite all its state funding. And Urban Meyer runs a probation house up there in Gainesville. What we need to do is rebuild the state's prison system for UF's "student"-athletes. Now that UM is ahead of UF, it looks like it will be that way for a looong time. Get used to it, buddy!

• Paul Butch won 1 more game than Randy in his first 3 years. Butch 22 wins Randy 21 wins. So if you are in full support of Butch why are you throwing Randy to the wolves for wining one less game??? And in his fourth yr which Randy is in now in, Butch lost 3 games, his fifth season he lost 4. It wasnt until year number 6 where he only lost 1 game. And the year after we won the NC with Coker. I really dont understand your point. Again with all due respect fans whojust want wins and dont want to pay attention to facts. Fans that have Shannon on a very short leash.

From talking with a lot of ex U players, they all are saying the same thing that Sid is saying that Randy's a nice guy but not a great coach - and he forget's about you as a player after you stop playing for him!!!

• Thank you Luke you got the thing about right. Sid Rosenberger is a complete idiot and fool. Got kicked out of UM for drugs and flunking his courses, still has a grudge. Knows nothing about football, didn't even play at the high school level. The vast majority of fans of The U, and certainly the administration and Board of Trustees, agrees with your sentiments. • @Caneboss, yes college football is different now but there is no reason to not be able to build up a dynasty similar to the one Butch Davis had in the early 2000s. It would have been considered a dynasty if we don't get screwed by the BCS in 2000 and screwed by a bullshit flag in 2002. Miami should have been champ 3 straight years. Randy Shannon fucking sucks, plain and simple. He's a good coordinator, not a good coach. There's a big difference.

Its is no longer a secret of the talent pool in South Florida. Miami can no longer change gradesm let tutors take tests and do papers and run the asylum that was once UM. Randy or no other coach at UM will ever have the multi millionaire dollars that the Urban Myers, Mack Brown, and Nick Sabans have to go out and get the best Ass. coaches and no other coach with talent will take this Job and lead it with intergrity not only looking at the money but Randy.Read this words ignorant fans. This private University does NOT have big time $$ to pay any coach big $$$. Was Randy not a GREAT Defensive coordinator??? So how do you people come off as saying he cant coach. You whave a problem with the Offense, Blacme Whipple, he runs it, not Shannon. Newsflash,,, Shannon Micromanages, the assistant coaches run the respective positions. If and changes need to be made, it needs to be to Shannons account to hire better Assistant coaches.

• I hear you. Luke does have valid points. However, my problem is the penalties and sloppyness. We're ranked 115 outta 120 in yellow flags! That type of non discipline stems from a lack of leadership and/or lack of respect for leadership.� From here, Randy's options are simple. Either change his leadership style to come down harder on all these boy's, or do it military style and come down hard on who he thinks his leaders are, and have them come down hard on the rest of the team. Regardless, a change has to be made. If he's not willing to do it, axe him!

• Last season Notre Dame fired a dedicated head coach who landed some of the top recruits in the country and went to a BCS game within the past 5 years - and Michigan fans have been calling for Rich Rod's head since basically the day he arrived on campus (http://www.firerrod.com/) Considering that Miami has not beaten a single good football team since Randy arrived (GT last year was a gimmick that we learned how to defend - not an all around good team), and in the same time Nick Saban has won an NC at Bama, its amazing there arent sites dedicated to getting him fired. I'd say he's getting off easy so far.

And Urban Meyer won two with Florida, so this gator team that "has fallen" actually just kicked Miami's @$$ earlier this yr. Above 500?? Are you serious - I can personally coach the Canes above .500. • Top High Schools recruits like Eli Rogers, Teddy Bridgewater, Nich O'Leary are now looking away from Miami. They dont like the offense and they feel the school is way behind than what other schools have. I cant blame these top High School recruits for de-committing and looking elsewhere.

• Randy is the best man for the job. I mean who else is out there willing to take on UM with that kind of pay. It has only been 3 years give the man a chance. Where are all my ride or die fans. Give the man a lil support.

• @DIEHARDFAN4THECANES Swagger doesn't win games & your post makes me a little dumber & a little embarrassed that you're a canes fan, real talk. @UM Alumni, Class of '04: Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Bo Pelini, Bob Stoops just to name a few 1st time head coaches who took over & turned a program around within the 1st 2 seasons. All programs pretty much a mess before those guys took over with the exception of Chip Kelly because Oregon was a decent team be he took them to the Rose Bowl & won the Pac 10 something they hadn't done since the mid 90's.

• Randy Shannon is a MUCH better coach than he was when he started here. I believe he will be MUCH better coach in 2013 than he is today. Pete Carrol, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban--all of these guys turned programs around but all had been head coaches for many years before they took jobs at USC, UF, and Bama, respectively. Randy is a first time HC, and I believe he will be great someday, too. If anybody should ever be given a chance at UM, it is Randy Shannon. And he should have our total support as long as he is improving. Remember, he won 5 games, then 7 games, then 9 games. If he doesn't win more than 9 games this year, then go ahead and make a scene. But nobody has any right to demand more than steady improvement. Especially when the alternative is to hire a complete unkown (i.e. you are dreaming if you think we are gonna hire a proven coach like Nick Saban or Bob Stoops).

• To all the people that say the canes has no heart, no soul, and talent. you are wrong about every thing you'll are saying,about the canes player,and staff. The CANES have worked hard to be were they at. right now, so giving some credit. All of haters forgot that that the canes invented swagger. all them other teams didn't have the type of talent, that the CANES have. most of the UM players gets drafted into the NFL. • I agree. He is slowly but surely putting the pieces together. What everyone is realizing now is that coaching isn't the issue. Randy is coaching them up the way he needs to. The offense just simply lacks the on-field leadership only a player can provide. Once we get that leader, we'll never lose a game again. That's a guarantee. If these players step up and be leaders and use their talent, they'll be great. not just good, but great.

• The notion that improving the quality of the school as an academic institution is somehow mutually exclusive with getting back to football prominence is utterly ignorant. Your athletes are never your brightest academic stars anywhere. Athletes graduate more often when they must, because they didn't get drafted. I agree that too many "fans" on these pages are not alumni and seem to think the U is a pro team. Shalala has precious little to do with the athletics; do you really think she's kicking athletes off the roles in favor of some engineering genius linemen? Stupid. I love Shannon as a Cane and a story, but he really needs to shuffle the deck and get something going . . . or go back to Defensive Coordinator. It's all about RESULTS at the U!

• What everyone doesn't know is that Luke is saying Randy will win a national championship in NCAA 2011 for xbox 360.. randy is a beast on the sticks.. luke also forgets pete carroll, urban meyer and nick saban all managed to turn teams around relatively quickly.. how? because they are good head coaches and know what they're doing.

• The team plays uninspired, flat and emoitionless. Just like Blandy Shannons personality. The guy has had 4 recrutiting classes. How many years do you need to give the guy ? 10? Spurrier won SEC championships before he won national championships. Blandy Shannon hasnt won anything here and they come out flat and choke in every big game since hes been there. He's been on staff here for 10 years and was part of Cokers staff, and should share in the blame from that mess. Blandy has to go or this program wont be anything anymore.

It's great that you are supporting Shannon and his efforts to recruit non-criminals since he became head coach, but why wasn't he vocal about this "Thug U" status back in 1998 when he joined the coaching staff as defensive line coach? Also, it is a little misleading to say that he has a 100% graduation rate. If you consider the fact that it typically takes 4 years to matriculate through a bachelor�s degree program, and he took on the head coach post in 2006, then you only have the one class of recruits to consider. Even if the entire 2006 entry class of UM football players graduated this past May 2010, isn't that why you go to college�to get a degree. Anyway, my issue with this "gospel" is your false reference to the University of Florida as a "state prison". UF does not have a reputation or a long-standing history of athletes engaging in criminal activity, that's "THUG U". Also, how is it that you use Steve Spurrier as an example of how the media and others should treat Shannon (Steve Spurrier didn't win his first national title until his sixth season as Florida Gators head coach. And it has taken six years for Spurrier to make the University of South Carolina Gamecocks a top-ten program.) then to degrade the UF program in another statement ( Sorry folks, but the University of Miami is a private institution for higher learning not a state prison, like the University of Florida.) The world (including you) knows the quality produced by the University of Florida. That�s why you used UF as a reference. You too recognize its greatness. When it comes to institutions of higher learning, when speaking of UM vs. UF, there is no competition. Don�t try to mischaracterize UF for what UM �used to be�. Why degrade another football program to lift up the U. Why don't you use your celebrity to raise funds for a �U� stadium so they can have another recruiting tool? And, when and if that happens and Shannon does not produce championships, what other excuses will you or others come up with to defend Shannon? To sum it all up��It�s great to be a Florida Gator!�

• There is so much more to Shannon's role than the title of head coach. He brought these kids in with the intention of rebuilding a program but also to instill values for when they leave the university. A degree gives them a better opportunity to succeed without football. Do you think Urban Meyer cares about Chris Rainey's future when Rainey leaves the university? Hell no! Urban reinstated him because the guy lacks morals and wants to win at all costs. Rainey serves a purpose for Meyer and once that purpose can no longer be fulfilled he'll throw Rainey in the gutter. I hope Rainey is a successful player when he leaves Florida because if he is not, that's one more sociopath that we dont need that Urban has allowed to re-enter society.

• The reason that we have a 100 % graduation rate is because the kids on the team aren't good enough to go to the next level so they stay 4 years to try & build their stock...just look @ last years draft, the 1st guy taken was a converted basketball player who played 1 season & was a back up & he was picked in the 3rd or 4th. If Shannon's a great recruiter then they're terrible at developing talent cause that #1 recruiting class from 2008 is a bust. Only 2 players from that class are above average & thats Spence & Brandon Harris. I was all for Shannon when he was hired but now I think he's in way over his head. The team always looks unprepared & they're sloppy with all those stupid penalties. Shannon is a great story, a good D-Cordinator & I'm sure he's a great man but he's not a good Head Coach. Luke mentions how long it took Spurrier to win @ Florida & S.C. okay cool will let's talk about Jim Harbaugh @ Stanford...STANFORD! Chip Kelly @ Oregon who's in his 2nd year & has already been to a Rose Bowl, not to mention Saban & Meyer. If you read Michigan blogs they do want Rich Rod out they been screaming that since last year. I'm not saying this team should be fighting for a Championship or anything but they have to look better than they have,,,We should atleast be better than last year & we're not.

• It is a good thing Shannon is taking care of the players off the field. He has done decent for a club that has the harshest fan base in all of college football. However he lacks the fire of a true leader. FSU was almost beat by BC. They are not a threat to anyone. UM was destroyed by the same team that BC almost had. If Shannon really wanted cared like you say he does. Then he would have taken our biggest rivalry to heart. But he didn't. Let him stay and recruit. Put someone that wants to win as head coach.

• Bottom line, if Butch beats Randy again for the 4th time in a row with inferior players, then at least, take the offense away from him and give it to someone like Leach. As far as Sid Rosenberg goes, thank God for him. He has been giving a voice to those of us who dont think Randy and Shalala are the best leaders for this team. I will especially look to Sid for leadership next Saturday if Butch kicks Randy's ass. Stick with the formula that worked for 20 years.

• Randy is good for the School for the fact that he is keeping his players out of trouble and then they are graduating. I think Miami needs to keep shannon because he can recruit, but think they need to scrap the offensive scheme... I do not like the current, I think it is horrid. Go to an offense that the U used to have that made them productive. They have far too much talent to be restrained.

As an alum, I am thrilled that UM is now considered a highly respectable academic institution with far above-average athletic teams that compete with class. Randy Shannon deserves a medal for what he does for kids who would be used at other programs. Yes, I want to win. I was on campus during the K.Dorsey years. But, the fact that NOBODY can honestly say we are Thug U is a great feeling and I will support Shannon and the players. GO CANES!! Good post Uncle Luke.

• Shannon is the right guy ..like anything in life that goes wrong that it takes time to get us out of this hell hole Coker put us in .. Shannon is above 500 so give the man time.Look at Urban Meyer who has been at Florida for 5 years now and see how low his team has fallen.. • Tony, Sam Shields was sadly a product of poor recruiting by Coker, that had nothing to do with Shannon. We need a receiver, and he is the kind of player that wS willing to step up and play. And then we got younger, more talented receivers, and he was willing to do what was best for the team by switching to db. That is why he was picked up by the Packers- he will do whatever is needed for the team.

• What has randy done since he's been the head man? NC? no. ACC Championship? No. And how is he a great recruiter when there are no leaders on the team. Sam Shields is a close friend of mine and the way he handled Sam wasnt right. You know who taught Sam? Charles Woodson is his coach now and he learned more from Charles in two months then he learned his whole 4yrs at Miami. Miami has top 10 talent but cant even crack the top 25. wtf??

• I don't think that the kids are well prepared because that, he does. But these kids don't have the heart and soul like the previous talented teams. Travis Benjamin is scared to get hit; Aldarius Johnson has slippery hands. These kids have to develop mental toughness outside of the coaching staff. Coaching can only take you so far. The athlete himself needs to grow some cojones.

• I hear u brother. The bottom line is that Randy S is good with the kids. I just don't think he is a good head coach. It's time for him to go. He would be a great AD, but head coach he is not. U can see the disorganization on the field. These kids are not prepared very well. Tons of talent, but no on field organization. I reckon he will be a gonner next year.
