'Canes Once Again Top Ranked Team in Florida; Stephen Morris May Start Again

Categories: Sports
Considering the uncharacteristic mediocrity of Sunshine State college football this year it's sort of a hollow achievement, but following the Hurricanes 35-10 dismantling of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets they're once again the highest ranked college football team in Florida. Fans can thank the surprisingly adept play of emergency quarter back Stephen Morris for that, and it appears he may very well lead the team again when they take on Virginia Tech this Saturday.

Somehow last week the UCF Knights became the highest ranked team in Florida football, at least according to the Coaches' Poll. That aberration was short lived. Losses by the Knights and Gators cleared the way for the Hurricanes to re-enter the AP poll rankings for the third time this year. The 'Canes sit at 24 in the BCS standings and the AP poll. They're ranked even higher, 21, in the Coach's poll. Besides the Seminoles sneaking into the BCS standings at 25 the rest of the rankings are Florida free.

Considering the team's chances of the team making the ACC championship game became nil with a Virginia Tech win over North Carolina, minor moral victories like may be all fans have left to cling to this season.

A trip to the ACC championship game would involve the 'Canes beating the Hokies and then hoping for Virginia to upset the team the following the week.

It appears that there's a distinct possibility that true freshman quarterback Stephen Morris may once again be the starter against the Hokies. According to The Herald Jacory Harris's recovery may not be going as fast as hoped and it seems as if there's the distinct possibility that Morris will have to fill in once again.
