Which they very well could have. An what was written about them would never standup in court as any form of defamation.

Wow, all this does for me is point out that some people that get arrested seem to be because of mental illness or brain injury. That alone shows a screwed-up sense of social priorities, and the newspaper mocking them just shows why this will never be fixed: those that are in part supposed to be enlightening people are down wallowing in the gutter instead.
