Win the division? Check. Knock-off Northwestern? Check.

There's not much left between Miami Central High School and its first-ever state football title. The Rockets trounced their arch-rivals last week to earn a spot in the quarterfinals tonight against South Dade. Central is favored to win, but you wouldn't know it talking to them.

"Favorites? Favorites for what?" said running back Devonta Freeman after his four-touchdown performance against Northwestern.

Central head coach Telly Lockette -- doused in Gatorade by his players after the win -- was equally eager to dismiss an early celebrations.

"Y'all wetted me like we won the championship," he told his team as they huddled near the endzone. "Well, we haven't. We've got three more to go."

"Can't nobody stop us but us," he shouted hoarsely.

The road to Orlando is looking increasinly open for Central. With Northwestern already behind them and state champ Miramar -- who sent Central home early last year -- already out of the playoffs, the Rockets are looking likely to come good on Riptide's state title prediction.

Then again, if we're honest, we know absolutely nothing about their opponent tonight except for the fact that they've kicked the crap out of their prior playoff opponents and their only loss came against a formidable Columbus team early in the season. Since then, South Dade has won nine in a row.

Central and South Dade square off tonight at Traz Powell Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Our prediction: Central 45 - 28 South Dade.

Now for a couple of photos from last Friday's game.
