Uncle Luke Claims Randy Shannon To Texas Done Deal, Longhorns Spokesman Won't Confirm

Miami New Times columnist and volunteer high school football coach Luther Campbell has got the sports media blogs jumping on his Twitter feed. Deadspin just posted an item about Campbell's tweet that Randy Shannon, recently fired as the University of Miami's football head coach, has accepted the defensive coordinator job with the Texas Longhorns. Campbell also boldly claims Shannon is "now the head coach in waiting" until Mack Brown calls it quits -- something that should make Randy hating Canes fans snicker.

However, University of Texas football spokesman John Bianco won't tell us if Uncle Luke got himself a scoop. We emailed Bianco earlier this morning, asking if he could confirm Campbell's tweet.

We received this terse response via Bianco's iPhone: "No."

Shannon allegedly took his name out of the running for Kentucky's head coach position when Texas' defensive coordinator job opened up over the weekend after Will Muschamp agreed to take over the Florida Gators program from Urban Meyer.
