Ricky Rubio Wants to Play for the Heat, Maybe

Known for his creative Pistol Pete Maravich playing style, shaggy haired Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio was the youngest player to play for the Spanish ACB League when he debuted at the age of 14. Then in June of 2009, when Rubio was 19, he declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft where the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted him fifth overall. Then, Rubio backed out of his contract with the T-Wolves and signed with Spain's FC Barcelona instead, telling the media he might get homesick if he moved to the U.S. and played here. And by "home sick," he meant Minnesota features dick-shriveling weather year round, and so he'd rather just not do that whole thing.

Well, now sources are saying Rubio does want to play in the NBA. And the Miami Heat are supposedly on his wish list. VIVA ETHPANIA!!

According to the Sun-Sentinel, someone from Rubio's entourage said he has a list of teams he'd like to play for next year.
Over the weekend, in a New York Times piece on the creative Spanish League point guard, a senior member of Rubio's entourage was quoted as saying, "The bottom line is, why would he want to play in Minnesota?

"He'll continue to say all the diplomatic things, and Minnesota needs to keep his value up for trade purposes, but the family's preference is to be on the East Coast, specifically New York, Miami or Boston."
Chances of landing Rubio are not all that great when you break it down, seeing how Miami has no draft picks left to trade away, nor do they have anyone not named Wade, James or Bosh that Minnesota might find appealing. But if Pat Riley can land the three biggest names in the biggest free agent summer in the NBA's history, the man can do just about anything. So suck it, doubters!

If you've been following the Heat at all this year, then you know their current point guard situation has been quite the giant mound of horse turd. Carlos Arroyo is inconsistent at best, and Mario Chalmers is on a whole other level of aggravating. Rubio in a Heat uniform would be pretty wild. Not only because they'd be even more badass, but every member of the Heat-Hating Brigade's heads would explode. And that would be rather fantastic.

At this point, Miami's biggest chip would most likely be Mike Miller who, ironically enough, the T-Wolves traded away to the Washington Wizards to acquire that fifth-overall pick.

For now, the speculation will mount, Rubio will deny the report, Mario Chalmers will tweet something in anger, and Knicks fans everywhere will swear Rubio will be a Knick simply by virtue of the Knicks playing for New York, automatically making it so. Ah New York, you're incorrigible!
