Former Florida Marlins star Miguel Cabrera, who in his rookie season helped the Fish clasp a World Series, has been charged with a DUI and resisting arrest up near his home in Port St. Lucie. It's the latest downfall involving alcohol in the life of the gifted slugger.

Deputies spotted Cabrera's car pulled over with a smoking engine on the 30000 block of Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce around 11 p.m. last night. Cabrera was emitting a strong stench of alcohol and had blood shot eyes and slurred speech.

When police asked if he was with anyone, he replied, "I am going to (expletive) kill him," before taking a swig out of a bottle of James Buchanan scotch in front of the officers.

Cabrera began repeatedly running out into the road with his hands above his head, so deputies decided to cuff him.

"Do you know who I am,? You don't know anything about my problems," Cabrera said while being cuffed according to the police report. "Fuck you."

Cabrera continued to struggle with deputies until they had to physically subdue him.

He was booked into jail and released this morning on $1,350 bail.

The Venezuelan slugger was traded to Detroit after the 2007 season, but has had notable problems with alcohol since then. In 2009 he was arrested with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit on the night before a critical late season game. That following off season he spent three months in a rehab facility in Miami.

1) I'm glad he didn't kill or injure anyone driving drunk and 2) I hope he gets help.
