Judge Mindy Glazer Accused of Misbehaving at Her Luxury Condo Tower

When Alex de Gasperi resigned last month as board director of Imperial House, a luxury Miami Beach tower, he didn't leave quietly. Instead, he circulated a four-page letter lambasting another high-profile resident: Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer.

De Gasperi says Glazer damaged a door by kicking it and later intimidated the board into backing an insurance deal that paid her husband, David Gaynor, thousands in commission. The accusation comes just a week after revelations that Gaynor paid the state $50,000 for wrongly claiming Homestead tax exemptions on two condos.

Gaynor, meanwhile, says the letter "is just completely untrue."

Glazer -- elected to the bench in 2000 when she was just 33 years old -- once tossed New Times' Uncle Luke in jail over unpaid lawyer fees and presided over the botched Tyler Weinman "cat killer" case.

She first crossed de Gasperi in March 2009 after she locked herself out of her apartment. When Glazer asked an attendant for spare keys, he told her she'd have to wait for a board member. Glazer instead "indicated she was going to break the door and then did," according to an incident report from the condo.

The condo billed her $150 for the damage. She paid, but countered in a letter that her three children were locked inside and that refusing immediate help to residents "poses a great danger."

Then, this past fall, de Gasperi led a charge to change the tower's insurance provider. The board was unhappy with Wells Fargo's service, he says, and found a cheaper rate from Accurate Insurance.

Gaynor and Glazer quickly protested the decision and called a meeting on December 20. The judge and the board director clashed, and de Gasperi claims she called him a "dictator" and threatened to "throw him in jail."

De Gasperi resigned after the meeting. "I had had enough," he says.

A month later, the board met again to reconsider the insurance deal. Glazer attended along with several political heavyweights -- including former North Bay Village mayor Joe Geller and ex-Miami Beach mayor Leonard Haber -- and the board reversed its vote.

Gaynor admitted that he would receive a commission from Wells Fargo to the tune of about $3,500, de Gasperi says. He says the judge used the heft of her office to swing a deal that would help her husband. "She should have been in court instead of throwing her weight around here," he says.

But Gaynor counters that nothing improper was done. "My wife was speaking as a resident of this tower," he says. "The board voted for the better insurance package."

Glazer didn't return a message left in her chambers seeking comment.

What has not been said is that this building has been in dire financial straits because of bad administrations, self-dealing and cronyism--and that the insurance company WILL NOT DISCLOSE the true amount of the commission which has been said to be from $25K to $40K per annum for over FIVE years!  Instead of paying the judge's husband that salary for doing absolutely nothing, the building's budget surely could have used those funds to cover basic essentials like the electric bill!  This was a case of high-class "pimping"!

1). the doors at Imperial House are solid core...a football player or two could not bust thru,( yeah if you lock yourself out of your apartment they call the president of the condo ...HUH?)   2) the judge appears to have had  her first run in with Alex when she asked for FINANCIALS  , that he and the board  had not filed for three years. (he's a businessman, but has no records???)   ie... took in millions and showed no records for 3 years of where the money went..and caused fines too, ( .... not saying he's a crook but ..if your were gonna....HELLO???)  3).  the police have been called because of Alex G.s behavior and is considerd a bully by  many,.4) the insurance 'deal' Alex G set up was improper and against the condo declarations/docs, which he often seemed to ignore. 5). she was not the 'presiding' judge in the Weinman case...(Elfrink bothched that)  and 6) ask Uncle Luke why he got ' tossed in jail'. (yeah, thats her misbehaving at her condo)  oh, I forgot Elfrink is  too lazy to get  facts even about  his Luke.   How bout an article titled "Tim Elfrink accused of stupidity and laziness.".      I do not feel that her husband should profit from the insurance deal,( is that HER  misbehaving?)..but Is she  not allowed an opinion.??..Alex  has told people that  if they do not agree with him to leave the building (per resident).  The board did vote for a 'proper ', legal insurance  package, and now a year later has picked the same insurance.  7) Her husband  did  not have to pay for "wrongfully claiming exemptions'..(.that is a criminal charge.) Legally, .he had to pay for the exemptions he owed.   BIG DIFFERENCE>>>..      If you want a story, POSSIBLY  you could check  Alex.... business dealings with the lawyer, and in general.... his exemptions, the lawyers history,..... FOLLOW THE MONEY>>>\        Some general questions; Is it legal  for anyone to use condo money for catering and restaurant rentals????  WHY did he resign??? Does this newspaper have a editor?? How long would a normal person deposit money in a bank if they were  charging your account and not giving you an account of for what, or your balance????? ( would you think the bank was up to something 'funny"????  ) What is a defamation of character, suit ??  I  have lived in a building with 6 times the units of this one but the lawyer bills  here are  about 17 times more...( I'm not sure for what.) The collection bills are 4 times more and returned 4 times less...Sound strange?  Some folks say he was a hard working guy, trying to do best for the building,..., and it is easy to see how the job  of being president can make a person a little crazed..........                                                                               he and she are  always nice to me

What an asshole! "He says the judge used the heft of her office to swing a deal that would help her husband" What a joke! The woman, who happens to be a judge, lives in the building. She can't have an opinion? And what if her husband COULD get them the best deal? I think the board can handle the situation just fine...this asshole obviously didn't get his way (says he resigned - my guess he was pushed out) then decided to attack this judge. WHAT A JERK!

Since when did this become a tabloid paper? The logic used in this article is called begging the question and attacking the person ( and in this case husband of person, too!) rather than the issue. It is traditionally used to fool people and is a form of decipt.. This article has the facts of one. No person at the meeting was interviewed to confirm ANYTHING...... COULD THERE BE ANOTHER REASON ALEX RESIGNED??..Did the writer look into the insurance agency...what would happen if a catisropic event needed to be paid out..(or the boards accounting)....I could go on and on about what a poor reporter job this is. In the end I do have questions about the judge, but even more about Alex....but none about the writer, this is obviously is a person with an agenda ......or just poorly educated and does not know any better

check out this writers list of the highest paid leaders in the government in Miami-Dade....they are not mostly Jews anymore...you voted and they hired... mostly Hispanic.... and .....how do you know that the other people are not the bad people? All you have shown is your stupidity and YOUR anti semitism. This story does not show if Ales is anti semitic or not. But I see you are smart enough to "hide under a rock".just like any common coward

Miami is controlled by the laws that are made by the people YOU vote for. Sorry they are not all Jews but you can't seem to hide YOUR anti semitism. This story is tabloid with the "facts" of one. The writer continuously uses begging the question and attacking the person, (or husband of the person) rather than issue, as a form of logic. I liked his story about big salaries for Miami government but it becomes obvious why he is writing for a small paper for low wages.
